In the summer, our skin can easily get irritated or dried out. Besides sunscreen, it’s a great idea to use a nourishing cream that hydrates, soothes, and provides antioxidants to help protect your skin from free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can lead to early aging and other skin problems.
If you’re not a fan of store-bought creams, why not try making your own at home using herbs and natural oils? It’s a fun, eco-friendly way to care for your skin—and you might even enjoy the process! You can also get your loved ones involved and turn it into a little DIY session together.
Here’s our recipe:
Ingredients:
Herbal Infusion:
- 1/4 cup dried calendula flowers
- 1/4 cup dried chamomile flowers
- 1/2 cup sweet almond oil or jojoba oil (for infusion)
Cream Base:
- 1/4 cup shea butter
- 2 tbsp coconut oil (antioxidant, antibacterial)
- 2 tbsp beeswax pastilles (to thicken and protect)
- 1 tbsp red raspberry seed oil (natural SPF, antioxidant-rich)
- 1 tsp vitamin E oil (preserves and repairs)
- Optional: 5–10 drops lavender essential oil or frankincense for scent and calming effect
Instructions:
1. Make the Herbal Oil:
- Combine calendula, chamomile, and sweet almond oil in a double boiler.
- Gently heat for 30–60 minutes, stirring occasionally (don’t overheat).
- Strain through cheesecloth or a fine sieve and set aside the infused oil.
2. Make the Cream:
- In a clean double boiler, combine:
- 1/4 cup of the infused oil
- shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax
- Melt everything over low heat until fully liquid.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly (but not solidify).
- Stir in red raspberry seed oil, vitamin E, and essential oil.
- Whip the mixture with a hand mixer or whisk until light and creamy.
- Spoon into clean glass jars and store in a cool place.
How to Use:
Massage a small amount onto clean skin—face, hands, body—any time you need hydration and care. Especially great after bathing or sun exposure.
Storage Tips:
This cream should stay fresh for 3–6 months. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
